Lanherne cottage is a quaint and traditional Cornish cottage that is Grade 2 listed and boasts many traditional features. It comfortably caters for up to 6 people. Nestled in the heart of historic Crantock village just below the picturesque St. Carantoc church. Lanherne is the perfect get-a-way. It lies conveniently, just four miles from Newquay and is only a 5 minute stroll down to the stunning Crantock Beach and Gannel Estuary.
The cottage is well served by two fantastic pubs, including the well known historic Albion Inn and the Cornishman - both a stone's throw away. The village also has a very well stocked and friendly village store, and a seasonal pizzeria/cafe - The Jam Jar. There is also an excellent regular bus service in and out of the village. If you choose to, you would not need to leave the village! It has everything you need, along with its charming, friendly and welcoming feel.
Lanherne Cottage itself is a cosy and characterful base from which to explore the spectacular coastline and South West Coast path made famous by the recent Salt Path movie starring Gillian Anderson. Well behaved dogs are welcome, and will surely enjoy the year round beach access.
Lanherne Cottage has been a successful holiday let for many years, but has recently been refurbished by its new owners in 2025. The accommodation comprises three bedrooms. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a large twin bedroom with its own ensuite shower room. There is also a good sized family bathroom that has been sensitively refurbished, but with all the modern features.
Downstairs, you enter the cottage into a hall that has the original Victorian tiled floor, and which opens into a pretty open plan lounge, with traditional low ceilings, thick cob walls, beams and a lovely deep seated window. It also has a wonderful traditional inglenock fireplace that contains a multi- fuel burner. The fireplace still has the recess from the old bread oven. You go through an old and low (watch your head) wooden door into the kitchen/dining room, which has all the kitchen appliances and utensils that you would need. Also, the traditional quaint dining room has its own original/ traditional open fireplace - now a feature with an electric wood effect burner. There is a large dining room table with seating for six guests.
There is Wifi, a smart TV and BLU Ray player, plus various board games and books for guest use.
Built in 1819, the cottage has bags of charm and original features, as well as all the modern requirements for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The pretty walled garden in front of the house, is south west facing and benefits from the sun all day from mid morning, with an ancient apple tree providing shade for those who prefer it. The grassed lawn is surrounded by a variety of pretty flowering plants and bushes. There is a gravel area with seating for outside dining or to relax in the sun. The garden is fully enclosed and private and exclusively for the cottage. The garden is dog friendly and secure.
To the rear of the cottage there is additional access via an alleyway which is shared with the cottage next door. Opposite Lanherne's back door there is a store area with a washing machine and additional fridge freezer. The lock box is located by the back door.
Crantock is an ancient village with many period and thatched cottages making a pleasant place to meander on the way to the beach or a coastal walk. Both pubs, The Cornishman https://www.facebook.com/TheCo... and The Old Albion Inn https://oldalbioncrantock.com/have sunny beer gardens, excellent food and regular live music throughout the year.
Further afield around a mile towards West Pentire point are the Bowgie Inn and C-Bay Resort which offer further eating options, as well as stunning cliff top views back over Crantock Bay. Whilst here, it is a short walk down to picturesque Polly Joke beach, or for the very energetic round the headland to Holywell Bay.
Crantock is a highly rated Cornish beach, popular with families and dog owners due to year round access and a multitude of leisure options. The tidal river allows for very gentle water access for small children (adult supervision required), and is popular with SUPs and kayaks. The main beach is a well regarded surf spot and is monitored by RNLI lifeguards most weeks between Easter and October. Surf hire (wetsuits, SUP, surfboards, kayaks) and lessons are available at the BIG GREEN Surf School https://www.biggreenadventures...and there are various options for food, drinks and ice creams.
During the summer season, a ferry runs across the river at high tide to take people to the Newquay side of Pentire Point, and the cliff top Fern Pit Cafe https://fernpit.co.uk/. At low tide you can make the same trip via a small foot bridge. Onwards from here a short but hilly walk takes you to Fistral Beach and Newquay beyond.
